PIC PROGRAMMING 5 ITEM COMBO from nuts and volts
23. November 2009 by admin.
Price: $155.00 from http://store.nutsvolts.com/product.php?productid=16889&cat=0&page=1

Getting Started with PICs:
In the January 2006 Nuts & Volts Magazine, Chuck Hellebuyck started a column titled “Getting Started with PIC’s” that focused on the beginner and PICBASIC PRO. It became a popular column and continues in Nuts & Volts Magazine today.
Beginner’s Guide to Embedded C Programming:
The C language has been covered in many books but none as dedicated to the embedded microcontroller beginner as the Beginner’s Guide to Embedded C Programming. Through his down to earth style of writing Chuck Hellebuyck delivers a step by step introduction to learning how to program microcontrollers with the C language. In addition he uses a powerful C compiler that the reader can download for free in a series of hands on projects with sample code so you can learn right along with him. For the hardware he found the best low cost but effective development starter kit that includes a PIC16F690 microcontroller and everything else the beginner needs to program and develop embedded designs, even beyond the book’s projects. There isn’t a better entry level guide to learning embedded C programming than the Beginner’s Guide to Embedded C Programming.
Beginner’s Guide to Embedded C Programming Vol 2:
In this “Volume 2” Chuck takes the reader to the next level by introducing how to drive displays, how to use interrupts, how to use serial communication, how to use the internal hardware peripherals of the PIC16F690 Microcontroller such as SPI, PWM and Timers. He even introduces how to drive a stepper motor for those looking for electromechanical design help. He tackles these topics with his typical down to earth style of writing that makes the reader comfortable as they learn what some consider very difficult topics for the beginner. In addition he continues to use the very powerful HI-TECH C compiler in its free Lite mode so the reader can program along with little or no expense.
PIC Kit2 Starter Kit:
The PICkit 2 Starter Kit contains a PICkit 2 Microcontroller Programmer and a PICkit 2 Low Pin Count Demo Board containing a PIC16F690 PDIP for getting started with programming baseline and midrange flash microcontrollers. PICkit 2 takes advantage of Microchips Full-Speed USB device, thereby significantly speeding up development programming. The PICkit 2 Low Pin Count Demo Board supports 8-, 14-, and 20-pin PICmicros. In addition to the PIC16F690, the board comes with 4 LEDs, a pushbutton, and a pot. Also included are 12 lessons to help get developers up to speed quickly on programming PICmicro MCUs.
PIC Kit2 Upgrade Parts
These components are added to the PICKit 2 that Chuck uses for his projects in his new book.

PICkit 3-XLP bundle offers comprehensive NanoWatt XLP evaluation
13. November 2009 by admin.
from http://www.electropages.com/viewArticle.aspx?intArticle=14210
Now available from Farnell - Microchip’s PICKit 3-XLP bundle combines the PICKit Debug Express 3 with the PIC18F46J50 FS USB Demo Board, XLP PIC samples and a CD including a C compiler, applications notes and training videos. The PICkit 3-XLP bundle is all an engineer needs to evaluate the new NanoWatt XLP Technology from Microchip. The next-generation nanoWatt XLP eXtreme Low Power microcontrollers lead the industry with sleep currents as low as 20nA. These three new 8- and 16-bit MCU families join three other recent 8-bit families that are all part of Microchip’s nanoWatt XLP portfolio, providing designers with a rich and compatible low-power migration path that includes on-chip peripherals for USB and mTouch sensing solutions. This industry-leading combination of low power consumption and functionality makes these PIC MCUs ideal for any battery-powered or power-constrained application.
The Kit includes the following PIC MCUs: PIC18F14K50-I/SO , PIC18F14K50-I/SS, PIC16F722-I/SS, PIC18F45K20-I/PT, PIC18F46J11-I/PT and PIC18F46J50-I/PT. The PICkit 3 In-Circuit Debugger / Programmer uses in-circuit debugging logic incorporated into each chip with Flash memory to provide a low-cost hardware debugger and programmer. In-circuit debugging offers the benefit of programming all PIC MCUs without the need for expensive sockets or adapters. The PIC18F46J50 FS USB Demo Board is a USB 2.0 full speed and low speed demonstration and development board featuring the PIC18F46J50. This PIM is recommended as an initial stand-alone USB development platform for applications that will be using any of the PIC18F46J50 family microcontrollers. This board can also be used as a Plug-In Module (PIM) to the HPC Explorer Board or the PIC18 Explorer Board for additional functionality. Also, included in the bundle are CDs containing the CCS compiler, HI-TECH PICC LITE C Compiler, datasheets, app notes, deep sleep training and NanoWatt XLP Demonstration videos, PIC Kit 3 User’s Guide and MPLAB IDE software, says the company.

Free download of the CANopen Design Tool
11. November 2009 by admin.
The CANopen Design Tool is a tool for rapid and cost-saving development of CANopen applications (devices) using our CANopen Library. It administers device databases, from which an object dictionary and an initialization function in C-code, an Electronic Data Sheet and the documentation are produced automatically. Furthermore it simplifies the configuration of the CANopen Library and of the CANopen Driver Packages.
With the CANopen Design Tool a tool is available, which frees the developer from error-prone and repetitive tasks. It guarantees the consistency of the implemented functionality, device documentation and Electronic Data Sheet (EDS). By default the CANopen communication profiles DS 301 and DSP 302 are delivered with the tool.
The demo version is limited to 15 objects.
Please download the version for your operating system. On Windows start the corresponding setup.exe. On Linux unpack the files from the archive to an arbitrary directory.
